I had a discussion with a German friend of mine about measles – and the fact that the German government now implemented the mandatory measles vaccination.
My friend was telling me that she is really happy to vaccinate herself, because so many little kids and old people would be affected and would still die of this disastrous disease. She also used the pharmaceutical catchphrase “herd immunity”, which is almost complete nonsense for many reasons.
Nevertheless I’m open minded… so I tried to find out some measles facts. Actually I tried to find proof of what the pro vaccine movement is saying. Just to understand the other side of the medal better.
Soon I experienced some difficulties…
Crazy true facts about measles!
First I’ve researched on the website of the WHO (the World Health Organization) and found the following statements…
“… in 2018, there were more than 140 000 measles deaths globally, mostly among children under the age of five.”
While
“ In 2018, about 86% of the world’s children received one dose of measles vaccine by their first birthday through routine health services – up from 72% in 2000.”
That sounds contradicting. When so many kids are vaccinated, why are there still so many children dying because of the disease? There was actually also no explanation for this.
Furthermore they do not mention any sources for the above mentioned claims – and I couldn’t find any anywhere, especially not for the 140 000 measles death globally. They also state that it’s an estimation, but even estimations must be somehow calculated. So there is no proof or basis for their calculation available online.

What I instead did find on the WHO website was more questionable statements, like
“Measles killed 72 children and adults in the European Region in 2018.”
In Europe do live more than 500 million people – and 72 deaths seam to be very low.
It is also not clear how this deaths got counted. Fact is that you can not die because of measles, but because of complications, like pneumonia after your immune system got weakened because of the measles infection.
BTW when vaccine critics claim that their kids have died or got injured after a vaccination, vaccine pushers will always claim that you can not count this as related to the vaccine, because the cause was pneumonia.
Still, 72 measles deaths in a population of more than 500 million people is a very, very low number. It can in no way add up to 140 000 deaths per year worldwide.
Then I’ve found a statement of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (an agency of the European Union):
“Ten deaths attributable to measles in 2019.” (IN WHOLE EUROPE!)
Additionally a German online news site made by doctors for doctors states “35 deaths because of measles in Europe in 2017 – according to the WHO”.

Which is again – a very low number!
True facts about MEASLES!
Now I was searching for complications linked to the measles. On the Mayo Clinic website I’ve found
“… the disease still kills more than 100,000 people a year, most under the age of 5. …”
As always… there is NO SOURCE FOR THAT CLAIM!!!
Complications of measles may include (according to the Mayo Clinic website):
- Ear infection. One of the most common complications of measles is a bacterial ear infection.
- Bronchitis, laryngitis or croup. Measles may lead to inflammation of your voice box (larynx) or inflammation of the inner walls that line the main air passageways of your lungs (bronchial tubes).
- Pneumonia. Pneumonia is a common complication of measles. People with compromised immune systems can develop an especially dangerous variety of pneumonia that is sometimes fatal.
- Encephalitis. About 1 in 1,000 people with measles develops a complication called encephalitis. Encephalitis may occur right after measles, or it might not occur until months later.
- Pregnancy problems. If you’re pregnant, you need to take special care to avoid measles because the disease can cause preterm labor, low birth weight and maternal death.

Now that sounds serious, right!
But not so much when you compare it to the PACKAGE INSERT of the MMR Vaccine (measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine).
The package insert shows
Adverse Reactions
Panniculitis; atypical measles; fever; syncope; headache; dizziness; malaise; irritability.
Vasculitis
Diabetes mellitus
Thrombocytopenia
Anaphylaxis
Arthritis
Encephalitis
Pneumonia
Nerve deafness
Epididymitis
Not so much of a difference. In fact the potential adverse reactions of the vaccine are even worse!

I also found on many websites (WHO and others) that millions of kids die every year of starvation… – which is likely true because there might not be any financial interest involved in stating this.
Just recently the German government, Merck is a German company, implemented mandatory measles vaccinations and it’s obvious that the only reason for this measure is… likely some kind of financial interest , you can also call it what it actually is: Corruption!
The measles death toll in Germany is regularly below 10 deaths per year, but the mandatory vaccinations will bring in many millions for Merck, the German producer of the vaccine.
